The Best Deal Ever
Who doesn't like a good deal? I sure do. Think about the last good coupon you redeemed or the last time you saved money on a purchase (my wife will probably tell you it was using her Kohl's cash - LOL). What item did you get in return? I remember going to the Apple store last year on Black Friday and purchasing a new iPhone for my dad and getting a $50 gift card back. Fun!
At some point in your life you made a purchase or took some type of action because you were incentivized to. Something attractive, like money back or dollars off, got you to leave the house and drive to the store, or more likely this day-in-age, it got you to click "buy." Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other holiday shopping deals get people excited to spend money because there is a reward tied to it.
I love good deals and if you do too, I'd love to share with you the best deal on the market today, one that can never be topped. It's a deal that proves God loves you and your life has a purpose!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
You might have heard before that Jesus died for your sins. But do you know what that actually means? Why is salvation through Jesus such a big deal that people like myself choose to share and tell about it? To understand the significance of Jesus' death at the cross and His resurrection, and what it means for you, let's look closer at the deal...
To start, when I'm shopping for a bargain, I look at the original price of an item. If it's a $20 item and I'm getting it for $19, that's probably not a good deal. But if the cost is cut in half and it's only $10, then that's a jackpot!
Now get this...the weight of your sin also has a price tag. It's a heavy toll - death. And not just death, but eternity in hell where you will suffer forever. The Bible is clear that anyone who does not repent of their sin and receive Jesus as their Savior will have to pay the full price of their sin, which is both death and hell (Matthew 10:28, Romans 2:6-8, 6:23, 8:1-2).
But God, who is rich in mercy, loves you immensely and made a decision to offer you a full pardon. That price tag of death and hell wasn't just slashed in half by Jesus...it was eliminated entirely! You're not getting eternal life with God for any price other than the one that Jesus already paid for you (Matthew 7:13-14). He is the only way to pay off your debt to sin.
Can you imagine a Black Friday deal where you can storm into a Best Buy and walk out with a new entertainment system for free? Not going to happen! But Jesus made salvation yours for FREE...you and me and anyone else who chooses to ask for and accept God's grace and forgiveness will get the deal of a lifetime...literally.
So the next time you see a marked down item or a good deal...think about the deal that God is offering you today. Besides escaping death and the torment of hell by having your sins forgiven (which is a sobering reality), you're getting an opportunity to walk closer with God in this life today.
When I made the decision to follow Jesus, my life changed significantly. Yes, I had to sacrifice some of the old pleasures I indulged in, but these things were only a cheap imitation of what true pleasure and joy are like. The Bible taught me that Jesus loves me more than I can ever imagine and that my life has value and a purpose beyond this world. The gospel isn't a means to getting rich on earth, but money cannot satisfy what our hearts truly desire - which is a real relationship with our eternal Father.
I hope you too will believe on Him and choose to become His disciple.
Be blessed.
